Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join our growing team at Hook. This role goes beyond traditional data infrastructure; you’ll be instrumental in optimizing our app’s performance and supporting general backend engineering efforts. Your contributions will directly impact Hook’s user experience, ensuring seamless, fast, and data-driven interactions for our users.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Infrastructure & Pipeline Development
Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines that facilitate seamless data flow across the platform, supporting both real-time and batch processing.
Collaborate with the product team to deliver robust and reliable data systems that enable analytics and data-driven decision-making.
Support general backend engineering efforts by developing and maintaining APIs, services, and other backend components that integrate seamlessly with data infrastructure and maintain stability as Hook’s user base grows.
App Performance Optimization
Implement monitoring tools to continuously track data system performance and quickly diagnose any issues affecting user experience.
Work closely with the backend and engineering teams to identify and resolve bottlenecks, optimizing data-intensive processes for faster load times and improved app performance.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
3+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.
Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP) and managing data storage solutions (e.g., S3, BigQuery).
Strong understanding of data architecture, ETL processes, and database management.
Knowledge of app performance optimization techniques, including caching, load balancing, and distributed computing.
Excellent problem-solving skills, with a focus on delivering efficient and scalable solutions.
Strong communication skills and an ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Amazon Kinesis Data Streams, Kafka streaming and AWS Clickhouse.
Prior experience in a music or social media tech environment.
